Tate Modern, Tate Britain are both free as are all the big museums (V&A, Science, Natural History). The National Gallery, National Portrait Gallery and most smaller galleries are free too. Some temporary exhibitions within them may cost around £8 to enter, but the permanent collections are free.

The British Museum, Natural History Museum and Science Museum are all free. I think the Victoria and Albert Museum is also free.
Check out the tourrist information web site for London to get all the latest events.
Have fun!
