Its not finding the animals, its getting permits from your city to be able to keep them thats the problem! here you can buy moutain lion cubs for around $600 apiece, BUT it costs a lot more just for a permit, and then it takes up to 2 yrs to be aproved, and then you have so many regulations you have to abide by, its vitually impossible to keep the animals.

There are several sites you can order live reptiles, such as crocs, alligators, poisonous snakes, etc. But as far as big mammals, that i would have no idea.

you might check into exotic hunting ranches. these ranches have exotics from around the world that people pay to hunt, and alot of them sell to other people.

That might be an option.

First, create your zoo, then contact other zoos. They buy, sell, loan and trade wild animals. Do not capture animals in the wild.
May I make a suggestion? Establish a zoo for insects too. NOT butterflies, but all insects, the most beneficial are the ones that mankind cannot do without, like the many varieties of bees, and the ones that clean up our waste products. Other than some of my friends that have "Gardens For Bugs", I know of no one that cares enough to establish sanctuaries for insects. Insects are disappearing at a much faster rate than animals, and fishes. There are some trees in the Amazon that has unique, rare species of insects to just a single tree, and when those are cut down, they are gone forever!
I am off my band-wagon now, but do consider insects too.

Hello

First if you have enough money to build a zoo I doubt youd be out on ASK yahoo asking advice on how to get animals.

You need the zoo fisrt then licesing and all of that

You would be out htere talking to Directors of Zoos getting THIER suggestions and referrals for folks who can help plan such an undertaking.

Not out here...

I suspect you are some body who is looking to puschase animals for your own little personal zoo. That is wrong and nobody o ut here should help you do that.

If you are a serious Investor.. then call other zoos.. like San Diego etc.. and HIRE a professional to od the leg work!

Why on earth would you want to do this? The clue is in the name 'wild'. Yes, there are places where you can get hold of exotic animals, but these animals are often ripped straight from their wild homes. If you want to help animals, then you should use your 'enough money' to support a good zoological park with a captive breeding program or a wild animal rescue organisation. Wild animals are not pets, they are not 'cute' and they certainly will not be grateful to you. Sorry to be so negative, but there is no real excuse for keeping wild animals in captivity unless they are part of a proper breeding program. If you really MUST keep exotic animals, then why not contact a rescue organisation and see if you could foster or adopt unwanted ex-pets. I can assure you that there are plenty of these animals out there as people find out to their cost just how difficult it is to keep these animals properly.

You have to get an exhibitor's licence from the USDA, then you can legally own wild animals, and exhibit them. If you don't they will fine you and possible throw you in jail. You should also buy insurance.

After you get the licence, you can obtain animals from breeders, other zoos, and, yes, the internet. I would be careful buying off the internet, you never know who you're dealing with. The animals could be illegally obtained or trapped, mistreated, and sick.
