The band's name is Connecticut Yankee, which WWE Music Producer Jim Johnston has utilized for other wrestling entrance theme songs. They also recorded the song "Our Time" for Triple H after his on-screen marriage to Stephanie McMahon throughout 1999 and 2000. The band is listed (uncredited) on WWE.com, and they appeared live at WrestleMania XIV to play a rendition of “America the Beautiful” to open the night’s festivities. Most wrestling reporters have referred to the band by name, and it makes sense since WWE's headquarters is also in Connecticut that they would have access to local talent. I've also heard rumor that they also recorded Chris Jericho's original "Break the Walls Down" song and Vince McMahon's "No Chance in Hell" theme song, as the vocals are very similar.
In addition, there was a version called "The Kings" recorded by Run DMC for the WWF Aggression CD that combined elements of the original theme. This was around the time that DX was winding down, and their music video showed all the members of DX, Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley, and Tori riding around in a stretch limo, if I remember correctly. I would imagine that the reason Connecticut Yankee isn't ever credited is because if the songs are popular among fans, then they didn't want to pay them royalties if they're credited.
However, judging by what WWE says on their own site, I would imagine if it was Rage Against the Machine, then they would have credited them, but the link does not credit them.

You are correct. I am still deeply saddened that they broke up, but I am a big fan of Audioslave.
