Ketones are the byproduct of burning fat as an energy source. This can happen to people who are on low carb diets, are diabetic, drink a lot of alcohol, or have various eating disorders. The body produced ketones when there isn't enough insulin in the blood. The excess ketones are excreted by the kidneys and can be detected in urinalysis or blood tests. Too much ketones in the blood results in a condition called ketoacidosis (the blood becomes too acidic), and the blood becomes poisoned. As the blood's pH becomes too acidic the person will start to exhibit symptom like thirst, frequent urination, high blood glucose, feeling tired, flushed dry skin, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and confusion. Often sweet smelling breath occurs. Usually seen in that order. Unchecked, ketoacidosis can progress to a condition called hypersomolar nonketotic coma. A deadly serious condition.
Ketoacidosis happens slowly, over several weeks Often people who use low carb diets are told to go off the diet and eat more carb for a couple of days, every two weeks.

ketones show that there is a breakdown in muscle tissue. If you exercise its not unusual to have a small amount of ketones. If you have a large amount there is a problem somewhere in how your body breaks down food into fuel for cellular use. If it continues you would eventually go into ketoacidosis which can cause death. Have you been tested for diabetes?

Ketones are the byproduct of burning fat for energy. Think of them as you would ashes after burning a wood log.
They are eliminated from the body through urine and through the breath.
When a body is in ketosis, it is burning stored fat for energy. There is a pleasant side effect in that one no longer feels hunger! The unpleasant side effect is bad breath. Suck on some mints that are sweetened with Splenda.
***Note: ketosis results from a low carbohydrate diet...not a low-fat one****
