Well one theory is that the earth is halfway between heaven and hell. So both infuences are here. There is remarkable good and love and the sickest of evil behavior. If there is a God we certainly could use a little intervention here on our little planet. The bible? Well it didn't float down on a cloud from heaven -I for one would like to see something as evidence in our modern times.
How about a big sign in the sky that said "I'm here.I'm not happy, get it it together my little creations or I'm going to wipe the slate and start again!" I think it would help ;)

Although God is in control of this world, when Adam and Eve sinned in the garden they gave this world over to satan. So he is temporally in control the this kingdom. But we as Christians do have a say so over what goes on in this world. Ultimately we have the choice to do either right or wrong, so therefore is it not Gods fault that there is so much evil in the world it is our.

For every good person there is an evil person, in believing in god you must believe that there is good and evil and in believeing in god you must try to be one of the good people. Evil exists because there must be balance in the world if everyone in the world is good what is going to be the test of life? God is testing us with the evil people and trying not to be evil as they are evil and trying to be good or pious....you understand what i mean?

Let me ask you something : Do you think He should kill evil people before they do evil deeds? Maybe He should judge murderers and rapists now? What about thieves and liars, adulterers, fornicators, those who lust, and those who hate? If God judged evil today, every man and woman who has not been saved by Jesus Christ would perish under His wrath.

But, God loves us so much, that He is patiently waiting for them to turn to Jesus to be saved.

Hypothetical situation : *Everyone* became saved, and followed Jesus' teaching. What would that mean? No more lying, no more hate, no more anger and abuse, no more murders, no more thefts, no more disrespect, no more promiscuity and sex-related problems, no more wars. No more undue sorrow outside of aging and natural death.

But the fact is, is that not everyone is saved. The fact is, is that not everyone who proclaims that they are saved follow in Jesus' footsteps (the desire to do so [that is, the willingness to repent of sins] is, in fact, a pre-requisite to salvation).

And so, God waits patiently for all people to turn to Him. God is not slow when it comes to dealing with evil... but rather, He is waiting for the time when there are none left who will choose good. That time, however, is at hand.

To Kit F : "Religious people are the worst offenders, producing far more evil than atheists" ... The Crusades (which, mind you, were committed by people who did not follow in Jesus' path, but rather, various Popes' decisions, and is against all of what Christians embrace, and is wholeheartedly rejected as being 'good' by Christians) only killed a few hundred thousand over a span of 500 years. Abortion (a concept embraced as 'good' by many atheists) has killed 1,000,000 American babies this year to date alone. Considering that abortions have been legal since, IIRC, 1972, that makes about 34,000,000 Americans dead at the hands of non-believers... the number is even higher if we count those world-wide. 200,000 over 500 years < 34,000,000 in one year.

1. Free Will
2. Not taking responsibility for once own actions

I was once testing an artificial intelligence program called God and asked it the same question. Why is there so much pain in this world and the program replied "Humans are not infallible".

There was once a farmer who found that a cow had entered his fields and eaten up some of his crop. He beat the cow to death. When the villagers asked him, he said God controls all, God controls my hands too, so it is God who killed the cow.

Seeing this God one day appeared in front of him as an old man and asked him, you have a beautiful field, who made it so beautiful?

The man said...

- I ploughed the field with my own hands
- I sowed the seeds with my own hands
- I watered the plants with my own hands
- I harvested the grain with my own hands

If the field is beauiful its is because of my own hands! Then God smiled and said, then my son whose hands hands was it that killed the cow?

Let us not be too quick in saying that we are sin free that no evil should happen. Remember that whenever you feel God is not there with you, it usually means you are not with God.

yes my dear...
kindly read this message:

Perseverance through burdens and struggles

Don't be afraid of pressure. Remember that pressure is what turns a lump of coal into a diamond.

Bible text: Because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. (James 1:3,4 NIV).

An old legend says that God first created birds without wings. Sometime later, God made wings and said to the birds, "Come, take up these burdens and bear them." The birds hesitated at first, but soon obeyed. They tried picking up the wings in their beaks, but found them too heavy. Then they tried picking them up with their claws, but found them too large. Finally one of the birds managed to get the wings hoisted onto its shoulders where it was finally possible to carry them.

To the amazement of the birds, before long the wings began to grow and they soon had attached themselves to the bodies of the birds. One of the birds began to flap his wings and others followed his example. Before long, one of the birds took off and began to soar in the air above!

What had once been a heavy burden now became the very thing that enabled the birds to go where they could never go before... and at the same time, truly fulfill the destiny of their creation.

The duties and responsibilities you count as burdens today may be part of God's destiny for your life, the means by which your soul is lifted up and prepared for heavenly kingdom.

We as humans don't fully understand this, but remember there is also Satan. Many are called, but only few are chosen. After man was tempted in the Garden of Eden, sin began. Then it led to Noah's Ark when the world was destroyed by a flood. That started a new age and now it won't be destroyed again by water, but by fire. You should read the book of Genesis and you will begin to understand. Then go over to the New Testament. It's all important, but you will have the general idea.

God doesn't exist.
Religious people are the worst offenders, producing far more evil than atheists. Check out the muslims ...
You are right to ask the question. Religious nuts will have an answer - they always do. For example "God works in mysterious ways", which doesn't answer the question at all but merely avoids it.

Everything in nature has a balance so must good and evil. Without evil good would not exist. What would we call it?

Heavenly Father gave us free agency, to choose between right, and wrong. I believe He is a fair God, and would not force us to do right. He wants us to, but he wants he to learn at the same time, and learn to look to him for guidance in choosing the right..... :)
