what i would like to know is when wearing cotton dancewear rather than lycra/nylon does it feel more comfortable and cooler to wear than skintight nylon or lycra danewear

Cotton is more comfortable and cooler, it is a natural fiber and as such it "breathes". Nylon ot lycra do not breathe so are warmer.

There is huge variety in synthetic materials nowdays. Good quality synthetic dancewear is much cooler than cotton. If you ever tried something like Chrisanne you'll never want to change back to the old generic stuff. Average quality synthetics can be hotter than cotton. I prefer synthetic dancewear, even if it's not Chrisanne.

The cotton lets your skin breaths what makes you feel more comfortable.
