Not a good idea.
Solids should not be started until around 6 mos of age, per the AAP.
Babies really can't digest anything other than breastmilk or formula prior to 6 mos. of age.
Starting solids too early puts your child at risk for allergies, diabetes and obesity.

Everything I hear on the news and read about all state that you should not give a baby solid foods until 6 months. Giving solid foods earlier than that has been linked to allergies, obesity and diabetes later in life. For a baby's first year, their main form of nutrition is breastmilk or formula. The only reason to introduce them to solids is to help prepare them for table foods when they are a year old.

It might be, but every baby is different. I think my son was ready for baby food at that age, but I still waited until he was 4 months old. If your baby isn't choking on the food and isn't allergic to the food then there shouldn't be any problem with it. You might want to let your baby's doctor know what you are doing just in case your son has a medical condition.

It is best to wait until the baby is 6 months unless the doctor tells you otherwise. According to my doctor, my baby was ready for Gerber foods @ 5 months. He was physically & developmentally ready for Gerber foods. Not all babies are the same-- you need to consult your doctors about issues such as this.

I would not say that it is bad, but it is not recommended. Feeding them rice cereal would be better than jar food, but still not recommended. You could be running the risk of creating food allergies. Also, they do not have the proper swallowing skills they need to swallow "more solid" foods. You should talk your your doctor about this and find out what you should be doing and when.

Did you dicuss it with his pediatrician? You should do that before starting a baby on food especially one under four months. Now the American Academy of Pediatrics recommendation is not to start baby food untill six months so I would hold off a while longer.

yeah, it's bad. Solids are not recommended until 6 months of age. Even then, it is just cereal and the occasional veggie. Breastmilk or formula should be the primary source of food until one year of age.
Talk to your doctor!

Nope. Doctors differ on when to introduce solids. With my daughter, who is nearly 10, we were told that we could start rice cereal at 4 wks. She was 6 wks old when it was introduced. We started solids with my middle one, a boy, at 3 months as we already knew he was allergic to milk and were advised to wait, with my third, another boy, we tried solids at 2 months and he couldn't handle it. We tried again at 4 months and he did great.

Just make sure baby is still getting formula or breastmilk and remember to not introduce things too quickly. 1 new item every 3 days is what I have always been told.

The baby's stomach is only about the size of his/her fist. The amount of food that they need will double about every two weeks, so consider that if you feed him 1 jar now, in about 2 weeks he'll need 2 at a time just to be full, and just keep doubling it. So the more you feed him now, the more he will need each time. Early introduction of solids is one of the commonalities of childhood obesity.

Prevention of Childhood Obesity

Obesity is easier to prevent than to treat, and prevention focuses in large measure on parent education. In infancy, parent education should center on promotion of breastfeeding, recognition of signals of satiety, and delayed introduction of solid foods.

They're recommending you don't start a baby on solids til they're 6 months old now.
Having said that, it's different for every baby. I was started on solids at 6 weeks old because I wasn't getting enough from the breastmilk and not gaining any weight!
Talk to your doctor and see what they say.
