I'm not for sure what I should be thinking, you can see the heartbeat and baby just fine, and then later we found an empty-looking yolk sac, what does this mean?

Nothing. You're fine, baby is fine.
Sometimes the cell splits early and there is an empty sac. Sometimes you drop 2 eggs and only 1 is fertilized, there are lots of explanations, including the sac being the placenta forming early and getting ready to sustain baby.
One egg was fertilized and you have a healthy baby implanted in the uterine wall, congratulations!

You mean, you had an ultrasound and the OB didn't tell you what this meant?? I'd be looking for a new doctor if I were you...

An empty yolk sac usually indicates miscarriage, but if you saw the heartbeat there's nothing to worry about. Call your doctor and have them explain the results with you.

Teh yolk sac doesnt last longer than 6-9 weeks, as this is when the placenta starts to form and the baby gets nurishment from there.

The person doing the ultrasound told you the sac was empty and didnt bother to tell you what that means?

You need to switched care providers, theyre REQUIRED to explain all procedures and findings to you AT THE TIME OF THE VISIT, you're paying them for that service of communication, if you're not getting it, go elsewhere.

I had this same undertaking decrease back in October. first of all, do no longer provide up be advantageous they schedulae yet another ultrasound till some thing is got here across. In October 2008, i became clinically determined with a "blighted ovum", the place a sac and placenta improve, yet no toddler. I had to have a D and C. All my HcG ranges/progesterone ranges have been suitable. lead them to do ultrasounds till they have an answer. possibly your dates are off. Even some days off could clarify why a toddler can't be seen yet. sturdy luck.

if you saw a heartbeat your baby is fine. That empty yolk it's a sac that is created to feed the baby while he develops an umbilical cord, I can't remember the exact name now.

A yolk sac gives the fetus nutrients...it's not supposed to be filled with anything. A gestational sac is the one that contains the fetus.

You should ask your doctor this question. Only s/he can give you the diagnosis.

well why didn't u ask the damm doc when u were there? asking questions here is ok but none of these people are docs and none were there when u had the scan!! u will always get conflicting answers and u shouldn't rely on this board to answer such important questions for u. ASK THE DOCTOR

Could mean that you were pregnant with frternal twins and one baby is fine, and the other is a blighted ovum. Have your Dr explain to you what they saw.
