I am a 26 y o m. I was diagnosed with 'hypermobile pattellas' a 7 years back. It was done by a military physical therapist.

I have been told that there is nothing I can do for it and just have to deal with it via profiles and pain meds.

Is there anything I can do to alleviate the pain?
Is there treatment that I can take to relieve the pain better and/or all together, cure it?

Actually, accordin to the doctor, 'hypermobile patella' is where the tendons surrounding the knee cap is not strong enough to support my knee and instead of rotatin like it is supposed to be. I am told that it causes my knee to wear incorrectly.

I've never really heard of your condition, but I'm assuming "hypermobile" means that the knee is rotating in an unusual manner. I would suggest you see an orthapedic doc and get another opinion. It's possible that he can give you Synvisc injections (synthetic synovial fluid) under the knee cap. This will lubricate your joints and cushion the patella. Also cortisone injections will help with the pain and inflammation. You might have a miniscus tear which will cause pain, swelling and your knee "giving out" at certain times. Either way, see a specialist. And ask about certain exercises to build up the muscles surrounding the area. Godloveya.

I would get a second opinion from another physical therapist, doctor, or ortho specialist. If the condition is due to weakness of your stabilizing tendons I don't see why exercises to strengthen the muscles of your thigh couldn't help alleviate the problem if not take care of it entirely. This is in no way medical treatment advice and my ultimate advice to you would be to have it looked into again. I tend to be wary of just one individual stating "there is no treatment." Good luck!

I feel for you. I have to have knee replacements in both knees. i had a shot in my left knee. It only helped me for 2 weeks. It was cortisone.
I would see if my dr would refer you to pain management. Pain affects every facet of your life. You are still young.
Good luck and god bless
