Well if the levels were way below normal it could be a sign of malnutrition. Cholesterol is a useful substance in the body. However if you are talking about a few points below a statistical norm don't worry about it. Lots of people would like to have that problem (Grin)

Depends on what you call "normal". My cholesterol was at 288. The doctor 'bout split on that - so I got put on Lipitor. That, exercise and diet [which wasn't bad in the first place] brought it down to 180. "Not good enough" he says. So he adds Zetia to the mix. My TOTAL cholesterol is now 130.... LDL [bad] is around 90, and HDL [good] is around 40. He would LOVE to have it lower. So, it can be taken down pretty far, even though your body does use it. As an FYI, I know someone who's LDL is LOWER than their HDL.... I *hate* them. :)

there are more negative consequences if they go above normal level. your arteries may get clogged, and this may cause heart disease/attacks or strokes. on the other hand, cholesterol is needed by the body for production of certain hormones (e.g., testosterone for males), and to maintain the integrity of the cellular membrane. are you anorexic?
