Why are there so many religious nuts, patriotic yahoos, white supermacists, anti-abortionists, creationists, racists, misleading journalists, flag-wavers and spiteful armchair politicians? These are not healthy in a society, especially in abundance.

Instead of liberating other countries, have you tried your own recently?

I think you have a valid point. I've watched this country change from a benevolent world leader to an angry giant. Truthfully, I think it's a legacy of the Vietnam era.
Vietnam was such a stain on our society that we spent decades trying to redefine America again. Just when we thought we had it all pulled together, 9/11 punched us in the face. We now look at a reality where a large part of the world doesn't like us for just being ourselves. This has most of us reflecting on our society trying to find blame for why the world finds fault in America. Failed liberal social policies spread immorality. Big business robs the world blind. The accusations abound with one group blaming the other.
We are a country that is once again trying to redefine itself. It may appear like nationalism, but it is not.

Oh, yeah, heaven forbid we have too many patriots, and flag-wavers.. And just because you're all for abortion doesn't mean that everyone else has to be. Not even to mention that most of your "misleading journalists and spiteful armchair politicians" are all extremely left-leaning.

Wow, you are so enlightened. Can we all hope to one day reach your level of compassion and far reaching intelligence? Please!!!Get over yourself this country has more to offer than your near-sighted rambling will lead people to believe. You forgot to mention the abundance of decent people who donate time, money, and effort to help those who need it, at home and abroad.

This is a expression of the paranoia that lies deep in the heart of the American national character. We always need some sort of enemy to focus on as a distraction, and if there isn't a real one, we will invent one.

that is not called nationalism, its called arrogance and trying to force their beliefs unto all of us....which we are also led by our leader as he does this around the world...and we are in this because we cannot accept anyone elses beliefs either in our own country, or around the world, because "OUR" beliefs are the ONLY ones that are right....and soon our decline will or has already begun
