You know my pet peeve is more with the people who can't speak proper English let alone type it properly...
Typing that way is just a form of short hand...doesn't make you stupid or lazy...the stupid and lazy ones are the ones that don't know how to proofread and use spell check to make sure they have a word, an abbreviation, or a sentence that makes sense...

I am so new to "computer life" until I feel intimidated by the fact that I don't know what all the abbreviations mean. I am under the impression that this is what is expected in casual conversation, so I try to slip in an lol at what I deem the appropo time. LOL. So, now that I know this form of communication is not a computer commandment, I will not worry about it. If I can read it, and understand it, kewl. If not, then I will click to the next phase. PEACE!

Yeah, chatspeak is the bane of the Internet. It makes people look like idiots. Lazy idiots! Although, I have a feeling if nobody typed 'lol' anymore, they wouldn't replace it with 'laugh out loud'. That might be a bit odd. ;)

I don't think it's so much laziness, why type the whole thing out when people know the acronym for it. I work as a contractor for the gov't and that's all they use is acronyms, they never spell the whole thing out and I wouldn't call them lazy, it's just very time consuming to type that.

some people are really slow at typing and like to do things the easy way...its almost like abbreviation. no they are not lazy, just in a rush to finish what they are typing.

Personally it is a little stupid I can see doing it if you text on a cell phone and you use abbreviations but on aim and stuff it's just dumb!

It is not connected with laziness.
Especially 'lol'.
It is manner of typing. I was proud about myself when I found out what means lol and IMO and cls.
Even ZOO is abbreviation.
