Studying for the A+ Cert are we? FYI, you may pass the course and get the cert by finding the answers here, but unless you DO THE MATH YOURSELF - be resourceful and STUDY , you will never be successful at providing Technical Support or whatever position that this gets you in the door in despite whatever certs you amass.

1. 18

2. The power cable and the 34-pin data cable

3. A cluster (aka a file allocation unit) is a group of sectors that is the smallest unit on the disk used to hold a file or a portion of a file, Sector refers to the way data is physically stored on the disk; cluster describes how data is logically organized.

4. Missing

5. File allocation unit

6. Tracks and sectors are created by writing tracks as a series of F6s in hex and, as necessary, writing the sector address mark to identify the beginng sector on the track;
The boot record is created;
Two copies of the file allocation table (FAT) are created;
The root directory is created.

7. The first sector of each floppy disk contains basic information on how the disk is organized (the total number of sectors; the number of sectors per cluster; the number of bits in each FAT entry; and other information that the OS and BIOS need to read the data on the disk)

8. Drive are so cheap today that it is cheaper to replaacxe them than to repair them.

9. The application you are running points to a different drive;
Windows encountered an unrelated error and the system has 'locked up;'
The system BOIs or CMOS setup is not properly configured.
The floppy disk (in the drive) is not formatted;
The floppy drive is bad;
The shuttle window on the floppy disk cannot open fully;
The cable from the MOBO to the drive is damaged or poorly connected;
The edge color on the cable is not aligned with pin 1;
The power supply is bad;
The power supply cable to the drive is loose or disconnected;
The command just issued has a mistake or is the wrong command;
The disk is insertd incorrectly.

10. This is most likely caused by the cable not being attached correctly to pin 1.

11. By the see-through holes at the corner of the disk. Double density disks have a hole on only one corner. The high density disk has holes on two corners.

12. a) Insert the floppy into the drive. Click Start, My computer. R-click on the floppy and choose Format. It is best not to choose Quick Format.
b) Insert the floppy into the drive. Click Start, All Programs, Accessories, Windows Explorer. In the LH pane, click the + (expand) by My Computer. R-click on the A: drive and choose Format.

7) It contains code to load and invoke the operating system
8) It is cheaper
9) A corrupted floppy disk. Mostly one with a bad track 0.
10) Flipped Data cable
11) high-density disks are of higher quality than double-density disks. The high-density disks have a special, thin, recording surface that allows the higher data rates.and has an HD logo on it and has two holes at the top.
12) On the C:\ prompt type format a: [/u/s] and in windows, right click on the 31/2 floppy icon, select format, choose your options and hit ok
