SIDE EFFECTS: Prednisolone side effects depend on the dose, the duration and the frequency of administration. Short courses of prednisolone are usually well tolerated with few and mild side effects. Long term, high doses of prednisolone will usually produce predictable, and potentially serious side effects. Whenever possible, the lowest effective doses of prednisolone should be used for the shortest possible length of time to minimize side effects. Alternate day dosing can also help reduce side effects.

This seems to be a very low dose for a short period of time. Your 6 yr old should be fine. If you are that concerned...talk with your doctor or get a second opinion.

the side effects are numerous but more pronounced with prologed use and high doses for long periods (months).

Drug companies are too open with information and to think that 2 paracetamol has a potential side effect of liver failure.

If your daughter tolerates the medication ok you should continue.

Short sharp treatments with steroids is an effective way at treating deteriorations in inflammatory illnesses like asthma/arthiritis. They can work magic for some people...... stick with it, finish the course but discuss with your doctor and try avoid prolonged use.

Prednisone--yes there can be some side effects. But that is a very low dose and it's only for 1 week. I know people who have been on it for 18 months at 60mgs 3 times a day and they are fine.

Here is a list of side effects and if any of these develop, talk to his doctor right away.

The adult threshold dose is considered to be 7.5mg per day. I would chat to your doctor, maybe take less over a longer period. I would also be concerned about long term effects if this is going to be a regular prescription repeated in the future.

I'm Asthmatic and have taken these steroids over the years - the plus side to taking them out weighs the negative. Dont worry, but keep an eye on your child as you would all medicine.
