I have never saw an ant in a bathing suit but they have no choice in the matter if they are in the water.
The worker ant has only one job in life, to follow the other ants to and from the nest and to feeding grounds. Ants are broken up into 4 categories. The worker finds and brings back the food, the guards defend the nest from intruders and other obstacles that might ruin the nest. Then there are ants that only look after the ant hill or nest and finally there is the queen ant that gives life to more ants.
When an ant go looking for food it leaves a trail to find it's way back to the home. An ant will find the quickest way there so lets say it rains, it doesn't know to go the long way around a puddle it will go through the puddle.
Yes ants can swim, but not for a long journey.
Thanks
Randy Scott

All living creatures can swim. But ants are adamantly opposed to doing so for cultural reasons, and will drown like rats before they'll take a stroke.

try putting a can of milk in the middle of plate filled with water
and see for yourself how they'll make it there

Most of em can float, due to their not being heavy enough to break the surface tension of the water.

No, they just float easily, so they don't really have to.
