Without knowing where you live so that a comparrison can be made, it is difficult to say. Generally speaking, America is the land of oppurtunity, but it is becoming harder and harder to call it that. Major corporations and the government are doing things that are slowly taking away the freedoms of the people and taking more money out of their pockets. If something does not happen to stop of from headed in the direction that we are going, the United States will no longer be a land of oppurtunity, but instead a land of facisim and fear.

It is no longer the land of opportunity. That moniker reflected a time when life in america was much less regulated. In a strange irony of economics there is a point a which law and order can actually damage an economy. The U.S. has burdensome laws regarding having a business. These laws do provide benefits such as confidence in the goods and services, environmental protection and equal opportunity. However, each new law makes creating and running a business more difficult.
I would look elsewhere for your land of opportunity.

Well, Muffin, I've lived in the U.S. all my life. I now live in China. There are lots of opportunities in America. The thing I like best about America is that legal rules don't change overnight when the government has a whim to change something that is in their best interest. It is the land of the free!

Wake up early --> go to work --> come home late --> go to sleep --> start again. (with the lowest amount of vacation time of ANY industrialized country)
Propaganda and statistics aside (both being easily manipulatable) it's ok. There is opportunity here but as in most places depends on how sharp you are, who you know, and especially how much money you have.
No restrictions on religion. There ARE racial issues. Freedom of speech is there but only to a certain extent. The government uses fear to keep the people from focusing on how corrupt it truely is. etc. etc. etc.
There are people who claim that if you complain so much about US, then get out. Hmm...it's freedom of speech to complain if you wish, even if it's about the country.
Everyone has their own opinions about it.

Yes, America is what you make it. You have to work smart to get to where you would like to go. What I mean is that you can't always think about how to trade hours for dollars. You have to learn the power of leverage. That is what this country is built on. Using other people to get to where you want to go is the best way to live the American dream. That is what corporations do. It is called learning how to be intra-dependant instead of independent. The best way to do that is to join a network marketing company or invest in real estate. America land of the free home of the brave!
As Americans we often take for granted our freedom.
We have every opportunity given to us regardless of our ethical background or social level. One only needs goals and determination to be an American success story!
We embrace diversity and worship God anyway we see fit....
We have security, safety and abundance in life for the most part....
I wake up everyday proud to be an American and know that my life is what I have made of it....
God has truly blessed America!

the opportunity is there. Does that mean everyone will be rich beyond belief? No, what it does mean is that you at least have a chance regardless of race, gender, color or creed. Many countries don't offer that. Is there still racism, sexism, poverty, violence, etc? Sure, but I'll take the chance of that, if it means I also have the potential to rise above it.

It all depends on how hard you are willing to work for what you want! But that is changing rapidly, now a lot of people want everything for free and expect to get it and when they don't ,they cry discrimination! But it still is a great country to live in. And I have lived in a few places over seas.

I can be anything, do anything.
The choice is mine.
The only limit is my willingness or not to learn what I need to (college, trade school or otherwise) and work hard to be the best at it.
If you don't like what you're doing here, you can change....be anything else you want.
The only limit is the willingness to work at it.
As with any group of people, their are those that are willing to work hard....and those that are not. Of course, their are complainers that will whine about anything regardless...but, those are the bottom 10% you'll find in any country.
