Cooking essentially _is_ chemistry. Recipes are formulas used to get the desired result. For example: the "recipe" for water is:
2 atoms hydrogen (H)
1 atom oxygen (O)
Combine hydrogen and oxygen atoms electrically. Repeat.
Just as chemistry is the use of tools (cylinders, beakers, etc), a catalyst (fire, radiation, cold), and ingredients (metals, salts, water) to achieve a desired reaction or result, cooking is the same way. On the old "Mr. Wizard" show, they used to do a segment called "Kitchen Chemistry" which was where Mr. Wizard and one of the kids would, in essence, cook something and show how chemistry and cooking were related.

All of cooking is chemistry -
combining different ingredients (chemicals) in different ways and then exposing them to heat or cold -
it is just an edible experiment (or inedible if you are a lousy cook).
Baking, however is Rocket Science -
as you must measure everything and then combine them in the precise manner described in the method.

elevation of boiling point and depression of freezing point is a chemical rule
if impurities are present the boiling point goes up
this principle is used while cooking vegetables by adding a little salt
the vegetables get cooked faster
just one example cited
