I'm in the beginning phase of interviewing applicants. If they can or can't multi task would weed a lot of people out.

give them a form to complete and ask them questions while they do it - see how well they can concentrate on both at once.
cant get much simpler than that

I WAS going to be a smart aleck - but I think this will still work - seriously.
Don't get p.o.'d boys, but ask if they've ever been mothers - particularly single mothers. If they've been/are mothers, have held down a job or two and had a child or more in school - they are multi-tasking experts. I'm VERY serious. Ask your friends and family. Ask some girls at work what they do when they get home - do ANY of the single ones have any romance in their life - that sort of thing. The flip side is they may miss more work days due to kid crises - but their skills usually make up for it.
If a man is in this situation, and I do know three, the same criteria fit. Men, even more so, because they weren't raised to "play house." Most women I know are lucky if they have a chance to bathe and are doing the household's laundry at midnight.
Good Luck - if you're a Mom, you should know where I'm coming from.

I dont know of any tests but I understand that women are much better at multitasking than men - eg. I used to work in a call centre and I could be typing one thing - talking to a customer about something else and have someone standing next to me talking to me about somethine different again and I was usually able to take it all in without any errors :)

Interview them for the position while getting them to type a letter on the computer.
