Honestly, get yourself a good mouser. I built a house during the winter one time and the mice got in when the foundation was open. They get in and breed. Got a good mouser, and when the babies started to wander away from the nest, she'd get 5 or a day. After a couple of months, never saw another mouse, dropping, nothing.
You may also want to figure out how it got in and plug it. A mouse needs an opening the size of it's snout to squeeze through.

The old solution works best. Mouse trap with a piece of cheese.
After you catch one by one, you have to get rid of the root cause.
This is where I think it is coming from: The garage door has a weather strip. It is worn out or there is a small (very small) hole at the corner where the door meets the railing. This is where they get in from. Then, in thru the water outlet that leads to the basement. From there they prowl at night to your kitchen because the water pipe feeds your dishwasher.....! The garbage bin on your kitchen door is their main attraction. Clever, aren't they?
So, this is what you do: replace weather strip. Plug holes leading into the house. Monitor activity by placing cheese/mouse trap repeatedly. If none you have beat them in their own game.
Otherwise, you must locate the hole leading into your home. Usually it is the garden faucet holes. Plug them all.
Good luck. Let me know how you are doing with this suggestion.

If you get a cat it will do the work for you. I am allergic to cats, and have resorted to the Ultrasonic Pest control devices, they are currently on the market, and can be found online as well as in the hardware stores, catalogs, Meijers and others. I have them pluged in and they will not come into the garage even if the door is left open. same for the insde of house. I am very pleased with this product , it will not harm your pets, and it is eco friendly. No clean up either !!!

If you can stand the smell,
Sprinkle NAPHTHALENE FLAKES around the house, in the attic, storage cupboards ect. The vapour stings their eyes and they won't come back.
but keep out of reach of children and pets
I got rid of a house full using this method 1989 mouse plague Australia NSW ( they were everywhere )
