When I heard my live in boyfriend died in a car accident my first reaction was disbelief. When I heard my friend died from cancer and i knew it was coming I was sad and relived he would not be suffering any more. When a person dies you go through different phases of grief. It is normal to be shocked, sad, mad that they left you, relieved they are no longer suffering but sad they did suffer and are gone. Some people cry , some do not. We all have our own way of grieving. One thing to remember is when some one close to you dies, you were lucky to have them in your life . Think of the good times you had. IF they abused you be happy they are dead. The abuse will be stopped. Some times shock hits you and it doesn't sink in till later on how much you miss that person and how sad you are. There is no time limit on getting over the loss of a friend or loved one. We all take different amounts of time. We may accept it but never get over it. But with time we learn to accept it and remember the good times . Keep thinking of the good times. Sadness to me is not negative it is a way of dealing with life.

Sorrow is a natural reaction to loss of a relative. The process of mourning varies from person to person. Your reaction wasn't at all negative. It just came so quickly and in that sense the next stage of mourning ( acceptance) will not be so hard for you..

There are many stages to grief. I don't remember the order, but they include denial, sadness and depression, anger fear, the final one is acceptance. Different people experience it in different ways. I wouldn't really say that there is a normal reaction, as people react to situations in different manners. If it is bothering you excessively , go to a grief cousellor.
