I have an eight month old daughter and I don't know what I should do! I keep washing my hands and I have antibacterial hand stuff in every room. But she's crawling all over the place and I feel like crap. I'm so tired and I feel guilty because I don't feel much like playing. I don't have anyone that can come over and help me. Any suggestions on what might make me feel better or what we can do? I already have cold medicine and cough drops, but they do not seem to work for more than half an hour! :(

Should I not touch her face or hands(I haven't been) until I'm not sick anymore?? Can I not give her kisses??? This is the first time I've been sick since I got pregnant with her!!!

If you feel that bad perhaps you have more than just a cold and have the flu? Going to see a Dr wouldnt be a bad idea in that case. I dont know your symptoms to try to give you home remedy advice. If you have a sore throat then I'd say tea with honey, that always seems to help me.
DONT feel guilty for not playing, I'm sure on all those days you feel well you play with her a lot, right? I've had to call in a few sick days myself (meaning she was in the playpen a lot) while I was lying in bed trying to recuperate.
Where I live we have drop-in daycare as well, it is awesome. My daughter goes twice a wk for 2hrs+ each time and I get to run all those errands that I need to get done or heaven forbid take a relaxing bath without worrying about her crying for me to come get her. I really recommend you trying to find one in your area, hopefully they will have one.
Get well soon!!

If its viral and odds are it is, there is nothing a Dr can do. Antibiotics are for bacterial illnesses. I guess I know how you feel I have a daughter who has stage 4 chronic lung disease {shes 13} and the smallest cold will put her in the hospital on a vent. I also have a little boy who just turned 5 months. The one thing I do in order to keep them and myself healthy is to pop vitamin C pills 2 or 3 times a day. You can give her kisses just avoid her mouth. Normal viral illnesses last 5-7 days in some cases 10 if you go beyond that go to your Dr or if your fever is high, your throat is so sore you can not swallow or you have problems breathing see your Dr ASAP

It is good that you wash your hands often. You do not need to get obsessive about it, but washing often helps you.

Babies will come into contact with viruses and bacteria whether you are the cause or not. She might catch a little cold. Do not worry about it. It has to happen sometime, right?

I recommend you both keep drinking lots of water. Stay hydrated.

L-Lysine is good at fighting illness. Don't give that to your baby. It is only for you.

70% of your immune system is in your digestive tract. I recommend eating a few Activia yogurts daily while you are ill. It repopulates your body with good bacteria that will fight the bad bacteria. Then just have at least one yogurt a day normally. Prune is my favorite. Yes, your baby can eat some yogurt.

Luckily, your husband is in the military. You have health insurance! Make sure you get to know your pediatrician soon.

Good health!

That's tough, last Jan. my three dauthers and I had flu all at the same time, it was awful and my husband was working overseas, they needed attention but I couldn't get out of bed. Finally what I did was I set us up a little "clinic" in the living room and we watched movies all day!! Your daughter won't understand that you're not feeling well, but if you can find a way to keep her occupied so you can rest that would be the best thing to do. Does your town have a drop-in daycare center? I used those periodically, but we lived in Austin too. Good luck and I know it's tough, but you'll make it :)

You're sick, so there's not much you can do so try not to worry.

Confine her to a playpen or something when you need to rest. Stop worrying about getting her sick---she's already exposed.

Don't worry about cooking right now--cereal for supper works great for you and any other folks in your family.

Drink a ton of fluids and remember this will end and you will get better. A few days of mommy not being as much fun is not the end of the world.

keep her as far away from you as you can. try to get through this until the daddy comes home or until she goes to sleep. this happens alot while you have children there really isn't anything that you can do. just try to relax sleep while she is sleeping .try to get some fresh air. and is might be a good idea to give her a diaper wipe to play with in her hands to help kill the germs. good luck and feel better.

Do not touch your eyes, or hers. Eyes are the #1 way to transmit colds and flu. (They are the easiest open avenue for germs to get in and infect.) My advice, your doing a great job with the antibacterials, and just hang in there!

Try Dayquil or Tylenol Multi-Cold Symptoms. Good luck.

I sure hope you feel better soon! Maybe you can put on a movie for her to watch? but she may be to young for that. Wish I knew a magic cure!
