I was contemplating changing over to a laptop.

What disadvantages have you found with a laptop (if any) compared to a PC. I would appreciate your input.(pardon the pun) .thank you

How about the peripherals, surely the whole purpose of having a laptop is to free up space in the home, so how do your manage using a printer/scanner with your laptop. Not trying to be pedantic by the way just weighing up the pros and cons.

In short:

Laptops are portable and generally smaller than a desktop.

Desktops are usually cheaper, more powerful, more upgradeable, and easier to fix.

However, those aren't your only choices.

There are also tablet PCs. These PCs are like laptops, however, you can twist around the screen, so that only it's screen is showing. You can then write on the screen like you would a notepad and walk around with it while you use it. However, generally, laptops and desktops are more powerful than tablets.

There are also ultra mobile PCs. These PCs are basicly a smaller and lighter version of the tablet. Generally, they have their keyboard integrated with the screen. So you can walk around while typing. However, generally, tablets, laptops, and desktops are more powerful than UMPCs.

There are some others, but I figure one of the above is what you would want. I suggest that you decide what you want to do with it. For example, play the latest and greatest games. And what your evironmental and financial restrictions are. That will decide what you should use.

I have two laptops, a pc and a MAC. I mainly use the PC when I have to sit at a desk, working but the laptops I use both when I travel and just for everyday browsing and games. Laptops are by far more convenient, much easier to move them around the house (even take it to bed to watch a film when your'e really lazy).

You can always hook your laptop to a bigger screen and use a regular keyboard but it's not possible to make your PC into a laptop.

I have both.

Obviously the portablity factor of a laptop is a major plus, but aside from that they're about equal, the only qualm I have is a laptop keyboard being so close to the screen (obviously!! and anyway it's a personal thing with my eyesight) so if I'm doing a lot of typing I plug in the wireless keyboard.

We have 2 laptops & 1 pc, the pc is hardly ever switched on cos we have wireless internet and tend to move around. Unless you are a hardcore games player where the PC is best, I much prefer the portability of a laptop.

I have both. I aint bragging, but when Im at home I like my PC its more comfortable you have all the peices seperate you dont have to change the whole thing if one part breaks down and you can add to it alot easier. However the laptop comes in handy when your traveling going to stay at a mates house and need to get work done or when you wanna mong out on the bed wrapped in your quilt. So theres a plus point to both.

laptop is the way to go
even the cheapest notebook computers outstrip the performance needs of the most demanding business users, and the "biggest benefit--increased productivity
Notebooks are the most obvious way to save energy in home computing and client-side office computers. Energy consumption is a critical factor in notebook design.if there is an electricity failure, one can still use the laptop.
you could take the laptop with you on a flight, and watch a dvd, or work on it.
it takes up less space
the main dissadvantage is the price

the main disadvantage is the cost to upgrade a laptop as the prices are alot higher than up grading a pc other than that you can buy a laptop that just as good as a pc.

The only advantage of having a laptop is being able to travel from place to place and having it right at your fingertips when necessary as opposed to a P.C.
