If you do paintball, one way to get round the expense is to ask for sponsorship from the venue... they are cadets after all, you are a flight sergent - that must have some street cred. Maybe you could do something in return for the paintball venue - offer special viewings of aircraft, or summin?
Or if you have enough time, organise a fundraiser so you can afford a really cool activity...

hobby grade R/C vehicles. If you love customizing, hobby grade is a lot better than those crummy radio shack models. From the cheap and durable (and still customizable with hobby grade parts, and generally go 35 MPH) Traxxaas models, to the as-adjustable-as-possible Associated models. Offroad models are fun in the dunes, and on-road models are a fun way to pass time in parking lots.
THEY ARE NOWHERE NEAR AS BORING AS THOSE DUMB TOYS! If you're into electronics and mechanics, they are PERFECT for you!
I've heard people land Traxxas models upside down, roll, and abuse them in most matters possible, and they never broke! I have a DuraTrax Evader, and while it's still fun and more adjustable, it breaks more than Traxxas models, but it's race legal if you want any cadet to get into the hobby for themselves
However, make sure the cadets aren't mad enough to slam into each other. Traxxas models are strong, but this won't make them friends in the pits. If they rub the sides, that's generally OK.
You can get an offroad traxxas model, the Bandit electric sports buggy, with relatively low-quality but still fun electronics for $80, or you can jack it up to a dependable Rustler for $150 or so. Bandits are usually cheaper at your local hobby shops, but the Rustler is cheaper at towerhobbies.com
Did I mention the US army is developing a way of converting the ever-expensive Traxxas E-Maxxes to remote controlled bombers?

Paint ball gun warefare would be great, but maybe to expensive. Or takem to Mcdonalds and see who can eat the most 1.00 double cheesburgers. Or have them study the stock market and develope a portfolio of 5 stocks, after 1 month or however how long, the team with the most earnings wins!!

Heavy petting
youth clubs
joy riding
alchol abuse
mugging
But on a more sensible level what about paintballing or a survival exercise where they are dropped of in teams and have to make their way back to base with no money
