You could always try to recreate the Classic 80's rocker chicks like Blondie, Joan Jett, or go way back and dress up like Janis Joplin, but keep in mind you want to stay true to these ladies independent style but you still want to be yourself so have some fun with it it's Halloween. :)

Something totally opposite of what you normally are always makes a great costume.
So since your normal style is dark, don't go with the scary costumes. Try a cute and silly one instead.
think fairies, fairytales, Disney, ballerinas, etc... All the sweet and innocent things you would never consider otherwise. No one will expect it, so you get the added bonus of surprising your friends in your costume.
