because the ECM will make the radiator fan run continuously when the A/C is on

if the car is fundamentaly overheating, then the water pump appearantly wasn't the fix for the problem. now you have several other issues, either it is low on coolant, the radiator is blocked partially, espically if you put stop leak in it, or the thermostat is bad. what you have to do is run the car without the A/C on, and see if you hear the fan kick on, or just run it in park/nuetral at 1500 RPM untill the fan kicks on, if it starts overheating before then, you either have a burnt out fan, bad fan relay or one of the prior problems. when the A/C kicks on, it turns on the additional fan for the condenser, which is the radiator looking thing in front of the radiator. also, i would wonder if the water pump was actually replaced or put in correctly.

YOur car is overheating because (a) low in coolant due to a leak
(b) radiator fan not coming on when it is suppose to due to various reasons. When you turn on the a/c the computer automatically turns on the radiator fan. Since we know this is happening in your case (cools down with a/c on) then your fan is working and so are the fuses and relays. However you may have a 2 fan system in which case it could still be the fan motor. I f it was a single fan system then I would suspect that the coolant temperature sensor is defective. Or as I mentioned you may just be low in coolant. Have it checked out. Good Luck!

It sounds like your electric fans are not turning on. When your car is at idle it depends on electric fans to cool the radiator. When your car is moving the wind passing over the radiator cools the radiator and hence your engine. When you turn your AC on it also turns the electric fans on (in some cars). You didn't say if this was at idle or while you were driving the car. I would guess that the fans are not coming on which could be a sensor problem or an electrical short to the fan.

Your fan is not coming on like it is supposed to when your car reaches normal temperature. Chances are you have one of two problems. You have 2 fans on for the car( 1 not working) And when you turn on the AC the other fan kicks on and is helping cool the engine a little. Or you have 1 fan and the fan relay or temperature sensor is bad and not turning the fan on when normal operating temp is reached, but when you turn the AC on the fan is supposed to run continuous.
My guess is it's the temp sensor or the fan relay in you fuse and relay center under the hood.

If it were reversed, overheating, turn on HEATER and guage goes down, it would make sense. Your car my be one of those vehicles that automatically turn on a 12v powered fan in front of radiator whenever the A/C is turned on. The extra boost from the fan would lower the temperature. Hard to diagnose ! Don't feelbad, had a Chevy that speeded up when a/c turned on. Never found out why. Cheaper that way.

Bob C is probably right but check that the wires have been replaced on the fans from when the water pump was replaced.

sounds like a bad fan relaly .
when ac is on it bye passesint and turns both fans on or just the one fan on. the ac will run the fan because of the extra heat
from the ac.
