The first civilizations (Summerians, Akkadians, Babilonians) lived in Mesopotamia (Land Between Rivers) the fertile valley between the rivers Tigris and Euphrates, modern Iraq. This was an ideal location for the development of civilization because of the stable weather and abundance of natural resources made it great for life and it's location made it a nodal point for commerce between Africa, the Mediterranean and the far East which contributed to the exchange of goods and knowledge. Unfortunately this also made the area vulnerable to foreign invasions.
