There is no proof that Mary was a whore! She was thought to be from a city called Magdela, which was known to have many prostitutes. Therefore, many people assumed that she also, was a prostitute. It is written in the Bible, that Jesus cast demons from her. This could lead one to believe that she was either possessed, or suffered from multiple personality disorder, no different than today. Once Jesus made her whole, she became a very significant part of his life and teachings, which could explain their close relationship. It doesn't mean they slept together. It has been argued that some of the disciples were jealous of her being so close to Jesus, which might explain how the rumors got started, that she was a whore.

There is no scriptural basis for the commonly held belief that Mary Magdalene was a prostitute. Her first appearance in the Gospels is immediately adjacent to the story of the prostitute saved from stoning when Jesus challenged the crowd to let the sinless cast the first stone. This, and some inaccurate portrayals both in church teaching and popular culture, reinforce the idea of Mary Magdalene as a former whore, but it just ain't so.
