Two years ago when I had cable I watch G4 a lot and was hearing about Nintendo making a smaller version of the GBA. Later I saw it to hit shelves and I thought that it would be popular. Now my cable is gone so I don't know how the Micro did. I went to my local gamestore this past weekend and did not see anything about it. I heard no news about it on the net, and did not see anybody playing it anywhere. I see advertisements about it in magazines. Still, its like it does not even exist, so whats up with the Micro? Any answers on this would be MOST appreciated. Thanks! ^-^

Respectfully,

Most companies, towards the end of a platform's life, redesign it to squeeze a few more dollars out of the current gen. Nintendo did it with the top-loading NES (now fairly rare), Sega did it with the Genesis model 2 (and 3), Sony did it with the PSX redesign (the PS1) and more recently with the PS2 slim etc. The GBA Micro was just another of these redesigns.

I think the Micro sold about as well as it was projected to sell (Nintendo isn't even offering any more faceplate designs, so I would guess that means it's done for). The Micro was aimed at consumers who care more about looks than about functionality. It was more compact, but the button placement was odd and it hampered gameplay.

Besides, the DS is backwards compatible, so there's no reason to get a Micro now.

Yeah, the Micro appealed to the audience who would get smaller of the things they often use (iPods, cell phones, etc), but the screen was too small for most gamers. So it failed to match the success of the DS and the Original and SP GBAs. Hod do I want to see the next Game Boy? As a PSP killer, and a DS sympathizer. It would have a bigger better screen, a click wheel for a Control Pad (like the iPod's wheel), 6 buttons, 4 shoulder buttons (like the Wii's Classic Style Controller), containing the classic +Control Pad, with the ability to upload info from your Wii and DS taking the Virtual Console on the go in you hands and Wi-Fi Connection play, and all Game Boy games with the games in Wii's Virtual Console, and the ability to play GameCube games and GameCube Game Disc-sized DVDs! But, that's just me. Don't get the Micro if you are going for the DS, that's my recommendation.

The Micro was succesful in it's early stages and surpassed the GBA with looks and style. But it doesn't have a bigger screen. And the DS is better. So, the Micro is still around, but not as succesful as it's predecessor.

The Micro's release was at a terrible time. The screen was too small. And they were planning to release the DS Lite after that, so there was no point to it. I found used Micros at my GameCrazy store.

It was a spur of the moment thing for nintendo to earn some cash before they released the DS.

Then it kinda got pushed aside.
