how do i get pc to phone work as i have pre paid and cant use it?

i put the number in press dial i cant hear it rinning then once it finishes it says can not connect to that phone as i really need to get it working as my fiancee is in the american army and i need it for calling her so need to get it going asap ........................ many thanks

are you dialing 1# I can call some phones and can't call others I don't have prob. calling land lines just some cell phones just be sure u dial 1#
