By 8 years most boys are starting to get into consoles. Gameboy DS is a great gadget with a good selection of games. If you're looking for something cheaper go for YuGiOh cards or a good board game, monopoly or scrabble are good for using numeracy & literacy skills. Avoid character toys like Superman & Thomas, he's behond all that.

Depends on what he's into. Nerf guns, action figures, dinosaurs, video games, Star Wars stuff, Attactix, Bionicles...my son's 11 and still into this stuff since he was at least 8. When I'm really at a loss for gift ideas, I call his friends or ask a kid in the store for a suggestion. If you go on the weekend, there's bound to be at least a few kids near his age there. Most of them seem to get a kick out of telling us "old folks" what's cool! Hope this helps.

Matchbox cars, baseball things, board games, if he has a video game console, a game cartridge. 8 year old boys (at least mine, who is now 12) don't stay with one thing for very long.

My son just got the Tamagotchi V3 and he loves it, He gets on the internet and gets all kinds of cool codes to get more stuff for it for free. He also just got heelys. They were a hit. I got them from Dick's sporting goods for $65.00. They change from sneakers to skates. Huge success! Good luck !

It really depends on what they like...I have found that Bionicles are universally popular. They come in a wide variety of price ranges..and are educational as well as fun. They also have DVDs.
