Yes, they virtually brainwash themselves by repetitive lying. Some of these people could even pass a lie detector test with no problem, because they actually believe their lie to be true.

I am sure that Tony Blair now falls into this category. He has become delusional. His latest ploy is to get us all to believe that he has left the country a better place than when he took over office.
I worked with a lady who told everyone that her Mother had died and she was so convincing we made a collection for her at work as we thought she had been left an Orphan. She stole money from her works mates, but we forgave her because of the loss of her Mother.
It transpired that she was married had TWO children and her mother used to look after the children whilst she was at work. She was only found out because her supervisor went round to her Mother's house where she was living to give her the collection money...something in the region of £300 pounds.
Now you may believe that story or not. A pathological liar is one that is so, so clever that even the most incredible story seems credible to most decent folk.
The lass had an illness, at least that it we were told.

the type of people that actually believe their own lies, dont usually get caught. truely they dont. if they do, they are not very good at it and have some dought. when u truley believe ur own lies, u remember it for years cause it's like an event that acually happened to u. i was this way in middle school. i was sent to a counciling. now i am 20 and im not sure what i made up when i was younger and what really happened. i found that when you make up lies, if u look at all angles, concentrate on what would get u caught in a lie, then how to lie around that so that it fool proof. keep saying it in ur mind constantly even while ur in bed waiting to go to sleep...u start to believe it. i found the best cure was to actually get a life. dont make one up, make real things happen, then learn not to care what others think so u dont have to lie cause u have nobody u need to convince.

I don't think the most convincing liars necessarily believe their own lies. What makes them convincing - or convinced - is that they believe in their cause. They believe their reasons for lying.
There are analogies. A thief does not necessarily believe in stealing. But a successful thief believes in his reasons for stealing.
On a bigger scale. Napoleon did not necessarily believe in killing. But he believed in his cause. Therefore he was willing to kill in order to carry out that cause.
What these people forget is that their actions - whether lying, stealing or killing - have a real effect on others. In the end all these actions destroy the foundation of relationships.
Moreover, if others discover that you lie regularly, when the day comes when you really need to tell the truth, nobody will believe you.
In the end lying lacks vision so that even the best liar will discover that he has built his house on a faulty foundation. To lie regularly to others is to treat others with disdain.

To be a great liar you have to have a photographic memory, which many don't, as they have to remember what they have told you previously and this is normally where they get caught out as they don't remember what they said and their story changes, and yes it can certainly help if you are connected to a lie detector machine and you genuiely believe your lies as it can trick the machine.

A convincing liar is only as convincing as his last lie, he has to have a damn good memory to keep up the facade and once they slip up, which they always do, the whole kit and caboodle come out and shows them for what they are, just lairs.

You got it! That is exactly what they do.
Liars are so freaking warped that they think if they can make themselves believe their BS then it will be easy to make someone else buy into the lies.
FYI to those that choose to tell lies over just simply speaking the truth..... it just makes you look ignorant when you believe your own crappy lies. LOL
I hate liars!

Oh yea. They actually start to believe their own lies and have to tell about 50 more to back up their story. They always get caught out in the end.

The problem I have, is that when I tell a lie I forget what it was, so eventually I always get caught out.
I'm trying not to lie quite so often now.
