So long as "if we leave it will hearten the enemy" is maintained it will be a long time before Western forces leave Iraq. However, it is naiive to think that having troops there does not exacerbate the ill feeling toward the West.
However wrong the reasons for going to war were it would also be morally reprihensible to simply pick up and leave. We created the hell hole that Iraq has become and to simply leave and watch hundreds or thousands of civilians to die is not a moral option. A radical change in action needs to be made, but turning our backs is not it. Perhaps actually supporting the Iraqi forces rather than paying lip service to it would be a good start.

there are a lot more killed each day on our nations hyways, and we dont get freedom from them dying?, These volunteers are fighting so we dont have to, can you imagine the turmoil if we were fighting on soil in America?
