My best friend is friends with a guy in school. She talks to him online and stuff, and one day she was talking to him. Her brother walked in, and said "Who's MArcos?" He later told her parents, and her dad said that all spanish people were scumbags? I found it very offensive, and now my friend is stuck with rascist parents. How can I help her?

Is it racist? Probably.

Does she need help? Probably not. Stay out of it. It's none of your business. Just avoid racial and ethnic topics around her parents.

Hopefully your friend has her own point of view and not follow her fathers. You had mentioned that she is stuck with rascist parents. Unfortunately we cannot choose our parents, or change their ways. Regardless of how they think, because they are her parents she should respect them. I doubt seriously they will ever change their views. However, your friend can choose her own way of thinking. It sounds like your friend is lucky to have you around to care about her that much that you would write. I would support her to carry on her views. To love everyone no matter what race, ethnicity, color etc. they are. I am spanish myself and I go through similar incidents that your friends fathers speaks of. It hurts alot. But you know what? I just look at it as ignorance speaking. I am proud to be who I am. Tell your friend, that she shows a great deal of maturity and to love her parents no matter what. Again, you are a great friend for being there.

Well yeah.....it's a racist remark. How you going to help? You can't. There are many people in this world who despite diversity refuse to change. Anyone who thinks that prejudice will be wiped clean off the face of the earth is living in a fantasy world. As long as there are people of a different sex, race, religion or are considered "different" than "us normal" people (as they would tend to say) then you'll find this.
You can certainly say to her father that his comment is prejudice but I have no doubt that he knows this already and will probably tell you to mind your own business. Or he may also say that you're right and apologize. In any case...I wouldn't make an issue of it. What really matters in this world is that YOU know it's improper. Let him fend for himself. hes an adult and if he says it to some Hispanic guy and gets a mouth full of knuckles for his trouble....oh well. That's the risk you run when you say stupid and insulting remarks to people.

Well my parents are the same way. You can't change your parents but what you can do is prove the wrong. let them know the good things he does. For example holds a good job, maybe he is in sports etc. Show them that not all Spanish people are the same.

Many people are racist. It is a fact of life. It is due to them not knowing the other person, or "color" Sorry your friends parents are racist, just tell her to ignore them, she has her own life to live, and them being racist shouldnt stop her from seeing whomever she likes, or even eventually falls in love with.

Since her parents pay the bills and provide for your friend, they are entitled to an opinion. (Right, wrong or otherwise)
Note: Most parents want their grandchildren to look like 'them'.

it is racisim, your friend has the right to like whoever they want to no matter what race, color of skin, religion, they are. its our human right to like whoever we want no matter what religion, or color of skin, or race. and your friend should tell their parent how they feel about their friends.
