It's almost impossible if you rely on the industry to do it for you: they are running 40 finished manuscripts a day of which one only will get through. If you want to try self-publishing I had a really good experience with Grosvenor House Publishing Ltd on selfpublishing.co.uk and they arrange for the book to be listed on Amazon if you like. It is under 800 GBP
I guess not everyone can be JKRowling!

MICH has suggested you the easiest way to publish your novel through blog on internet. It may also get a good readership. But if you are interested in exploiting it financially you will have to be patient. Take it to some publishers. They may perhaps make you frequent trips you have to patiently follow the instruction. I had a story for publishing . I sent it to 13 publishers and had it back with their compliments. The fourteenth accepted it and it was considered the best story published during the year 1973.Alternatively you can try to some literary agent who may save you some troubles. It may finally see the order of the day.Good luck. You need it.

As a debut authoress, this question is not easily answered but because it all depends on how determined you are to succeed.

Let me tell you this. If you have a manuscript completed or nearly so, the things you must do are: RESEARCH!!!!! Go to a local bookstore and obtain or look at a Writers Market 2007 or this year to see which companies might appeal to your genre of writing. Then you must read. Read. Read.

Your manuscript must flow as does the tide by virtue of the moon. Your spelling has to be exact. Your submission requirements must be accurate and you can find out this information on the net or in a bookstore, a query letter must state your case in one page or less, and your sentence and grammatical structure must be top notch.

Anyone can write a novel, my friend. But a true artist in this field must have one simple and unique ability. TO AFFECT THE READER - THAT is what a GOOD writer does. Period. Do your homework so that you do not have to ask a question such as this. Mist

First of all, write one (make sure its a good one though or else the second part of the plan won't work), then send it off to a publishers (you can get infromation from your local reference library about relevant publishers for what you've written) and hope they like it.

Don't give up! Good luck!

Hi, i recommend self-publishing. I self-published a book through http://www.lulu.com/
they are completely free and very easy to use. You can then buy a global distribution, or ISBN, which will put your book on Barnes and noble, borders, amazon.... i really like lulu, i think they are great. They also offer a great customer service if you get stuck.
If you think they are too good to be true (which was my original opinion) you can view my book at http://www.lulu.com/dchooper
Hope this helps. Good luck with your writing.
For any more information about Lulu you can contact me at forensic_dreamer@hotmail.com (if you do contact me, put Lulu in the subject line, or i might report as spam)
Cheers, Deanna.

It depends on which genre you have written, to which publishers you should be sending your manuscript to, but make sure you have it proof read before sending as it goes in the bin with the first typo!
