well .... in USA, most of the places in publuic and private sector offers good and secured parking facilities for cars than bikes. the winters dont allow u to ride a bike. its not very professional if u go to work on a bike.

some people buy bikes for passion that too higher end engines ... whose cost is almost as a car and in many cases they are even expensive. but they normally use it only for summer and that too during the weekends. if u go to the countryside, u will see this.

cost of petrol is not an issue as these bikes similar mileage as a car. US government is encouraging bikes a lot now a days to reduce the traffic .. and people r getting some intrest now a days. (obviously lower engines).

so .... let us see after 10 yrs USA may use more bikes ...... u may see the indian 100cc-150 cc bikes running on USA roads.

I use my bike for my long trips, rode it over 3,000 miles to Colorado and back 2 years ago through several thunderstorms too.
I was comfortable too, '02 Super Glide with no windshield, running 75-85MPH through the Western states averaging 50-53 MPG.
I sure couldn't have got that good of mileage or had as much fun in my car or truck.
A lot of us Americans are just "too soft" to do much outdoor activity.
I enjoy riding my bike, ATV, camping, hunting, fishing, and just about anything else outdoors.
It's too bad more kids aren't made to play outside and learn some things about nature and our beautiful country.
I guess it's too easy to let them sit in front of a TV, computer, or game system and become a lump.

I think that people are generally affraid of bikes. I love mine, and I see a lot of them - but you're right, there aren't nearly as many as cars. In foreign countries - in Europe and Asia, I presume that there are probably just as many bikes as there are cars - maybe more - but that's because the streets are smaller and more congested. Here, traffic is bad, but it takes a highway to get anywhere - and I think people, for the most part, just don't have the guts to get on a bike and ride it.

Gas prices are soaring (well, not so much anymore), which is why I got one - you can't beat 55 miles per gallon - but people just don't want to give up those SUVs!

Yes, most Americans are afraid of motorcycles. Because the're dangerous and will kill you, don't you know? Everybody dies on a motorcycle! If you ride a motorcycle, then the terrorists win! OOOOH, SCARY!

The other reason is the completely idiotic automotive battle cry of the past five years: "IT'S GOT A HEMI!" Consequently, the roads of America are full of 5.5L land yachts that seat nine but carry one. They get 15 mpg instead of 45mpg, but they have the illusion of safety. They have ABS, stability control, traction control, in-car theater, hands-free cell phones, GPS navigation and all wheel drive. Which leads people to believe that the vehicle drives itself, too. Wonderful!

Many Americans are too stupid to understand how to operate a motorcycle and too ignorant of reality to see how much more efficient it is as a commuter vehicle. They aren't willing to take the time to learn something new, and are content to go about their happy little lives with their brains clouded by reality TV and Starbucks. They want to sit in that illusion of comfort and safety instead of having to actually PAY ATTENTION to traffic around them like a motorcyclist does.

All the excuses about hauling more cargo or your entire family is utter crap, considering that people mostly use their cars for commuting to work and hardly anyone carpools. You take your family of seven to work everyday, do you? Need to take a baby grand piano into the office on occasion? No? Then you can take yourself and your briefcase on a motorcycle just as easily, hot shot!

You'll get a lot of answers to this question by people that have NEVER RIDDEN a motorcycle, and are just whiny pansies.

America is a big place filled with people who can't drive well. Its not like livin in a small Eropean country where the laws are enforced.

Many Americans are afraid they'll be hit by an illegal Mexican with no insurance, as well. Its hard enough to get a car fixed. Medical expenses are really tough and motorcycle repair, impossible.

Firstly, the road net work all over USA: it caters for cars, not cycles entirely! Secondly, the speed: cars take you to your destinations much faster! Thirdly, fitness: we need to be really fit, to be able to go around pedalling our way all over, rather than motoring!

Bikes are less comfortable, more dangerous, terrible to ride in rain & winter cold, carry fewer passengers and less cargo...
