While kind of gruesome as any surgery is, it does work. My Dad had it done and he stopped sounding all nasal-y and his snoring lessened and he was breathing a lot better.

I had it done. It helped a little, no doubt. They basically shred your septum, and then smash it together into place with the use of a large plastic thing on each side, which are then sutured together.

It's a very odd feeling when they yank those buggers out of your nose after the septum has healed, though. They're seriously like 4 inches long.

One other thing I'd mention is that there was some serious pain during the week after the surgery, and your nose leaks a lot. It isn't pretty!

Yes it's safe. But, it is a somewhat serious surgery. If you are going to have it done, consult with your anesthesiologist, and tell him/her in complete honesty about your drug and alcohol use... TRUST ME!
