Go to Add/Remove Programs and remove all the not-that-necessary programs and files. Also, transfer all the songs, pictures and videos to some other drive. Use CCleaner(www.ccleaner.com), which will delete all the unused registry keys.

Yes you should delete some programs by going to the Add and Remove Programs option in Control Panel under the Start button.
However I have notice that some programs still leave its junk behind after it is done uninstalled. You can check after you Add/Remove it by going to C:/Programs/ look for the program that you removed and see if that file is still there if so delete it. But do not do this first instead try the Add/Remove Program option.
Another problem for people about space is spyware and bloatware. Just download spybot search and destory and scan your computer for spyware. Make sure you follow the directions.
This is a problem I had. I downloaded a file that would record me playing a videogame. Well snice this was a movie file it got a way to big and the next time I tried to install something I got that same error you did. I couldn't figure out what was wrong then I got to looking and I noticed a file that was like 49GB. So I deleted it. The point I'm trying to make is sometimes you can have movie/music files that take up alot of space try looking around for that.

First of all delete wont do it.. Go to Start / Control Panel / Add Remove Programs/ and choose the program you barely use and uninstall. Don't you have any games or something (music etc) that you can delete rather than programs?
There is no second of all.

I have to assume you have a fairly large hard drive as most do. So you have filled it up with maybe pictures and videos and music files, all of which gobble space. Burn them all onto CDs then delete them from your hard drive. If this is not what's happening, leave a more detailed message about exactly what is filling up your hard drive. Look under Windows Explorer, My Documents, select it, right click and scroll down to properties. How many megs of files u have will be listed there.

Get rid of the programs you don't need/use anymore...or if you rarely use em, put it onto a disk or an external harddrive. Delete is only deleting the shortcut...go to Control Panel then Add/Remove Programs to get rid of them..

You need to empty your recycle bin,
You can get rid of temporary files by using disk cleanup. Start, Program Files, Assessories, System tools, Disk Cleanup.
Go into internet explorer, tool, internet options, clear history.
Control panel, System, System restore and reduce the proportion of disk space used for system restore.

Go to windows settings and use add/remove programs. There you can find out wich programs you have, wich are the most rarely used, and thus, wich is needed to be deleted.
