No. Drink what you like. I just heard that drinking tap water is good for your teeth and gums because it contains flouride and bottled water does not.

I personally like bottled spring water. I am going to start drinking more tap water too.

Bottled water is expensive for what it is really. You're saving tons of money by drinking tap water. :)

Tap water is safe to drink, especially if you live in a developed country. There are strict regulations on tap water to make sure it is safe to drink. Bottled water is actually a highly UNregulated business and this has the potential to lead to some serious complications such as diseases like e.coli and other high bacteria counts.

Bottled water also can have many minerals taken out of it that we need to get from our tap water. Fluoride is also provided in many municipalities and areas through the water and has greatly decreased the number of cavities that people get since this plan of adding fluoride has been implemented.

So I say, go ahead and enjoy a nice tall glass of tap water, I know I will!

20/20 and CTV News did stories on whether bottled water was better than tap water. Their conclusion was that it isn't and that it was foolish to spend that kind of money on bottled water (which is often just tap water in bottles by the way, ie Dasani) when we have the best tap water in the world.

Their taste test concluded that New York tap water for instance was preferred over all the bottled waters tested by blind taste testers. Also, bottled water companies are unregulated and can contain contaminents, whereas the public water system is closely monitored.

The articles are pasted below, as well as one who says 20/20 is wrong.

We go with tap water, but we installed a filter system on our tap/fridge water in order to make it taste a bit better.

Bebert is correct. They have found that children who drink solely bottled water had more problems with their teeth, and they have attributed it to the lack of fluoride in the bottled water.

Most municipalities have very stringent water treatment facilities, and studies have shown that a lot of tap water beats out bottled water in taste. (New York has been in the top 2 for the past 10 years for best tasting water vs leading bottled water.)

Unless your municipality has placed you on a boil water restriction, or your doctor has specifically told you to not drink tap, (Many doctors will tell you to use distilled water to prepare formula for infants with lower immune systems such as preemies) then just put a portable water filter (Brita, Pur etc...) on your tap if you are really that concerned about impurities.

You can buy the bottled water and overpay for the plastic bottle and normal ordinary water. Or you can be a dedicated follower of fashion and drink the water out of a bottle with a foreign sounding name. Just load up the garbage dumps with the use one and toss out plastic.

Bottles will be more comfortable for you instead of going somewhere to find a tap.

It isn't an important "necessity" - it's where the council can cut funding and save money. No longer part of the budget for parks etc. This is a shame really because we should be encouraging more people to drink tap water and not buy bottled water (which has a huge environment effect and leaves a huge carbon footprint). If we don't recycle and reuse and reduce our carbon footprint - we are ruining the planet and resources and it's our children and grandchildren etc that suffer. And yes, we should care and we should be bothered. Why introduce and promote waste management if they can't follow it themselves?
