Boy there are some really ignorant answers to this.
I work with Wildlife so what I would do is NOT what most would do... I love snakes... All of them.
If it were me..
and I could ID that it was NOT a venomous snake.. Id gently pushit into a box or other container and escort it outside, so it can live by my house and keep the rat/mice population down!
If I could see it was venomous or could not ID it as nonVenomous
I would ( keep in mind Ive done this b4) Put something over the top of it that is solid so it cant strike through...
Onc eI got it captured into a solid container I would take it outside and let it go .. but prob a little further way...
Id also look at both of the snakes to make sure they were not injured or ill before releasing them..
If they were.. Id take them to the nearest facility to get treatment.
Snakes get a bad rep really...
Most all US snakes will gladly exit rather than bite you if you leave them room to do so.. Except the Water Moccosins.. they do have a bit of an aggressive tendency and have been known to actually chase after a person and they tend to strike repeatedly ...
They are tempermental little buggers for sure and Id rather deal with a rattler anyday over a Moccosin.
Good Luck.. and I vbet to somebody 1/2 lit a snake in the kitchen must have been a real sobering experience!.. FUNNY

Horses with pig or stone eyes should be avoided because of their bad attitudes. I have found this to be absolutely true, BTW. Edit - I do not believe the dis about chestnut mares. I have a chestnut mare with 4 white socks/hoofs who has feet just as good as any other horse and she has never been anything but sweet, kind and completely trustworthy. She even packed a rank beginner into the mountains and stood her ground when the beginner rode her into a ground hornets nest. Now that's a good horse!

That person who said they would chop its head off is an idiot. A snake can't help that it scares some people, it has a right to live- plus it eats mice and rats.
The problem I have is that when I wake up in the morning and get ouf of bed, there is a snake on my floor. I solved this problem by wearing underwear to bed.

I would poke it with a broom handle (too see it the cat hadn't killed it) and realize that in my area, I have only one type of poisonous snake. I would grab the snake and set him free

scare it into a box and call animal control. or i guess if you partied enough that night, maybe 911 was the best thing to do.

Grab the broom push it out the kitchen door. Then kill it. Also find out how it got in. We have had to copperheads so far get in the house this yr. It makes you look around now before you get out of bed. One was in our bath tub.
