I'm buying a new stock for a Local borough in london, but am unsure on what's popular. I fear buying something no one will read, or will hardly be issued out. Any tips?

You have to get Chris Ware's 'Jimmy Corrigan - The Smartest Kid on Earth', 'Acme Novelty Archive', 'Quimby the Mouse'
anything that Chris Ware does is genius!!!!

I also read the amazing historical Chester Brown graphic novel 'Loius Riel'

check out the site below for a good idea of cool up and coming stuff if you like the look of the above..

Go for the 'ESSENTIAL' range, which are reprints of the original marvel stories (Amazing Spider-man, Fantastic 4, X-men etc).

Alan Moore stuff is good as well.

You did not say if you are setting up a shop. If you are could I suggest you go through "Diamond Distribution". It's a company that imports comics, graphic novels etc froom the US. What I used to do (I used to run a comic shop) was leave a copy of the order book out for people to look through and then they can order what they want, pay a deposit & you know you will not be stuck with it.

They also do some "Sale or return" offers, which will help you not to end up with surplus stock.

I belong to a reading circle and am currently reading "Memoirs of a Geisha" by William Golden. It is excellent and very descriptive of life in early 20th century Japan. On a more popular note try the novels of John Grisham, Harland Coben and Lee Childs. Or the novels of Joanna Harris, Mary Higgins Clark, and of course, all the classics! I could list hundreds of good novels as I am sure anyone who enjoys reading could.
Is this a serious question? It seems strange to be involved in stocking a library and not knowing what is popular - or am I being cynical? I would expect a good way to restock would be to research the data base of neighbouring libraries.

Frank Miller's 'Dark Knight Returns' is a classic Batman novel well worth buying.
Any of the 'Authority' novels
Spiderman / Black Cat (cannot remember the name but it's excellent)
Daredevil novels and 'Electra lives again'............the list is endless it's well worth going into Forbidden Planet if you've got a few quid to spend it's not my favorite comic retailers but it does stock some very good books!

Well Marvel usually sell really well and DC. For the older lot you can buy Manga comics like Akira, or Alien vs Predator comics.

I also think 'Preacher' is fantastic.

Also, 'Kubuki', 'Johnny the Homicidal Maniac', and don't forget 'V for Vendetta'. I know V for Vendetta came out in theatres months ago, but surely someone will want to pick up a copy for the holidays.

Buy my old comics (see my 360 page). They're not that great but I could do with the extra money.
