There is usually a gate agent that meets the flight that will have connecting flight information. He/she will have a list of flights that will be going to your destination. He/she will tell you which gate to go to and then give you directions on how to get there. Gates are well marked and there are plenty of signs that will show you where to go. Don't stress out about it, millions of people a day do it without a problem.

You will be fine. When you get your boarding pass at the beginning of the flight it will tell you what your connecting flight number is (if you don't know already). At landing, usually the pilot will mention the connecting flights, but either way, when you get off the plane, there will be the flight chart stating what flights are at what gates. Find your flight, then find your gate. You would not need to go to security again in most cases. (I did have one trip where the gate was changed at the last minute- must have been pretty funny to see 60 or so people racing through the airport to the opposite end! The problem there was that they didn't announce the change until less than 10 minutes before boarding! Don't worry, though. It only happened to me that one time!)
HAVE A GREAT TRIP!!

Depending on the airport where your layover is at, it's usually a simple process. You should already have your boarding pass when you get on the first flight and that should have the connecting flights gate # on it, if not, just check the board when you de-plane. Hopefully you're not going to be connecting in one of the major airports as the distance between gates can be quite surprising. Good luck!

Just go right to the gate. You don't go back through security, at least at most airports. A lot of times an attendant will read gate information as you're taxiing. Check the airline magazine on the back of the seat in front of you for a map of the airport terminals. Don't worry, layovers are pretty low stress.

If you're going through Atlanta, and flying Delta, it will be a pain. Other than that, you can usually stay in the same concourse and may have time to get a quick bite to eat. Then go right to the gate. The airport will have video screens of arrivals and departures.

You will be told what gate you have to be at for your next flight. You then go to that gate and wait to board. While waiting you can get some refreshments or just stretch your legs if you wish.
If your traveling with children bring something to occupy them (coloring books, crayons, etc.)

You go right to the gate... as quickly as you can! It can be done if your plane isn't late. Though, airlines are known to wait... even if your plance is late. It just depends on how tight their schedule is that day. If you can, get someone to call ahead to let your other plane know you've arrived and are on your way.
