Hi, i'am about to build a computer. I just cannot decide between the dual and single core. I don't think i would ever use both cores. These are the two i'am debating between.

^single core^

I would be using this as a gaming computer. I also plan to set up a raid 0 or 5. I am kind of on a tight budget. Would a dual core run faster even if i am using just 1. They both have the same cache, and the single has more GHZ. And by the way i would not overclock.
Thanks.

Better use what you like first later on you may regret for not having dual core

anyways Dual core is having similar feature as of Single. but taking into consideration for gaming next gen games if require dual core you will be behind to grab tha game just because of yours processor. Processor speed vary even in celeron, P4 but processor vary with their performances ....

The dual core one will outperform that single core one in games, you can check the benchmarks yourself:http://www23.tomshardware.com/cpu.html Make sure to just look at the gaming benchmarks (Quake, Call of Duty, etc.) There is actualy another reason besides just the processor, that dual core processor supports the faster DDR2 memory, while that single core only supports the slower DDR. Hence another reason this dual core is better.

Now I want to address what Dick said. First if you had looked you would know these two are AMD, which means they use HyperTransport and not the FSB system. Secondly, FSB is determined by the CPU, not the motherboard. So you really just need to find a motherboard that supports the CPU you want.

Listen buddy u r not going to go for an option that'll make u feel after smtime the need for a new one so man i m gonna suggest u the DUAL CORE cz see its rightly known in the market n te tech world that the perfoemance of the new Dual Core processors are 40 % better than the previous unicore .
As u told that u r gonna use it a s a gaming place so it'll be best for u to go for the dual core.
n dun care about the running faster of the dual core even if u r usingonly 1.
So all the very best n unhesitatingly go for the DUAL CORE.

I didn't review the processor links but wanted to put in my 2 cents.

Remember this: You need to ensure you have selected a MoBo that has an excellent bus speed. You can have the fastest processor in the world, and a poor MoBo bus speed will do nothing but slow your CPU down.

So IMHO, I would spend the extra money on a really great MoBo and purchase a processor that will do the job for years to come. That may be a dual core, or it just may be the single.

The dual's are the new kids on the block and many think they simply have to have them because of that. I think the singles would suffice just fine.

Your choice. Good luck!

go with the latest proven technology. with the rate at things become obsolete you will get left in the dust.

plus you can overclock a dual core and make ascreaming machine.... check this article at toms hardware on builiding a 4Ghz machine for under 800 bucks.
