Probably the simplest description is that mathematics is the tool, and language, of science. Without mathematics, any science is finished as there can be no measurement, and so no modelling.

You can not progress an iota without mathematics. You buy or sell, you pay money and get back change. You can not be sure you are not cheated unless you can add subtract multiply and divide. You want to relate late arrival and depature of trains to several factors- say accidents at unmanned level crossings, defects in railway track, malfunction of signalling equipment etc. You programme an observation scheme and ask operators to record the readings on specific parameters. At the end of it all you process the data and carry out regression and arrive at very useful results as to which parameters are affecting your results drastically and which are insignificant. Based on these you can set up mathematical models for future monitoring and corrective actions. There can be millions of applications. Physics, the basic science on which, the entire progress of humanity has been made is dead as a dodo with out mathematics.

Maths is everwhere!
Money is the obvious one - I love counting money! Especially if there's plenty of it....
The computer you're sitting at now wouldn't work without maths.
Buildings, bridges and all types of structures stay up because of maths.
Cars. buses, lorries, trains and all things mechanical go because of maths.
I hated maths in school - if the teachers had made it more relevant it would have been cool.
The bumble bee has it's revenge though - the mathematics say it can't fly!

Maths starts with basic counting in real world. you count the number of your children, number of friends, siblings. then it goes further to the basic need of buying and selling commodities.
In ancient times Astrologers used mathematics to calculate planetary positions and time.
As time passed on and common man becomes more and more aware of the magic of manipulating numbers , he discovered different branches of math, like trignometry, calculus, algebra etc.
on advanced scale, mathematics is a coding language for all pure/applied physical sciences. We write a differential equation in math but its interpretation can give different results for different situations. even to understand the position of an object in this world, we use coordinate system. time has been incorporated as 4th dimension to specify not only the location of object/event but also to specify the moment when it happens.size is described in terms of math only.
so mathematics has become an inherent and inevitable part of real world.

Take away all the math and there would not be enough caves to hold the World's human population or feed it.
