I could probably answer your question but you didn't mention which country you are in, type of habitat, size, shape of head, labial scale count, scalation over the head, number of ventral scales and sub-caudals, type of pupil, whether the scales are keeled or smooth. Herpetology as all sciences are very exact. I have written several books on snakes. If the photo is not clear then it won't show sufficient detail.

Most likely it's a garter snake of some subspecies; they're extremely common and variable, but generally black or brown with red, yellow, and/or green striped (from head to tail--not bands around the body).
Almost every state will have a snake ID page, so if you google your state name and snake identification you should get a hit. Here's one from VA, as an example.

Most common striped snakes are garter snakes (at least in the USA). There are a number of species, some quite colorful. Where did find it (geographically)? That's always an important point of identification.

PaulCyp is right. the snake you described is most likely a garter snake. its deffinately not a coral snake, as those are neither striped nor even partly green. its not a reticulated python either, unless you live in all the way in Asia.
try lookin up a pic for the Plains Garter Snake. might be the one...
