The key here is to LIMIT or NARROW DOWN your topic so it is manageable in a research paper. For example, THE CIVIL WAR would be much too broad. WHY WAS THE BATTLE OF GETTYSBURG CONSIDERED THE TURNING POINT OF THE CIVIL WAS would be narrowed down and manageable. Secondly, put your topic in the form of a question. Then the answer to the question becomes your research. For example, THE HISTORY OF MTV is a very poor topic because it is much too broad and does not allow you to answer a question which is the "point" you are trying to develop. Choose a subject that interests you, narrow it down, put it into the form of a question so you will have a point to research. Good luck.

The history of MTV. I checked out your bio, and it's always easier to write and research on a topic you enjoy. MTV started in 1983 and it grew into a huge financial gold mine for the corporation that owns it, I think Viacom. Now MTV is aired in languages throughout the world, and it's the trend setter in the music industry.
