I think a better bet for you would be to rent a flat. It would be cheaper that trying to stay in a hotel, but there are a few on Oxford street and you should be able to find some reasonable ones on expedia.com and or orbitz.

Best place to go is lastminute.com, they have loads of offers on london hotels and if you go to the 'secret offers' they can be even better!
We managed to get a really nice hotel right next to Hyde park with 60% off the normal price!!
