WAIT ONE SECOND
All the above will work but what if it hangs when you are scanning?
The best way to do this is to enter Windows troubleshooting mode called Safe Mode. This will only load the main files that windows needs to run. So you want get spyware loaded to hang your system.
You do this by hitting f8 repeatly before Windows boots up. Becareful that you don't do it to much or your computer will get a keyboard error. Just do it before the Windows logo comes on.
Then you will come to a menu screen with options chose the one that says Safe Mode With Networking Support. This will allow you to get on the Internet.
Then go download all those programs that was mentioned above and make sure you update the files for each of the programs that you downloaded to scan. That way they can be updated with the newest spy/virus out on the internet. Remember that some spyware scanners pickup some spyware that other scanners missed. So using two differnt scanners isn't a bad idea.
These are the best scanners I have used.
Spybot, Adaware, Hijack This, AVG virus scanner, and I Avest makes a good scanner from what I hear.

It may depend on what spyware has infected your PC. I recently had my desktop hijacked by TotalPCProtection (or something like that). I found this forum type website, did a search on the problem spyware, found the answer I needed and got rid of the spyware in less than 30 minutes. Maybe this will help you. Good luck!

I tried getting rid of spyware with Ad Aware SE. You have to be able to distinguish your own files from spyware files. If you can't (and I couldn't) you can end up dumping files you need to run your programs. I did that. I had to take mine to someone and pay to have it fixed. It was about $100. After doing this three different times I got an Apple computer. Haven't had a problem since.

Install yahoo toolbar. Click on "Antispyware". To my knowledge, yahoo antispyware is the best. You can also try windows defender if your windows is genuine.
Also install antivirus software to free your system from virus. The best antivirus which is available for free but non-commercial use is Avast.

Download and run these anti-virus programmes:
Spybot - search and destroy
AVG antivirus
Avast Antivirus
Ad-aware SE personal
After that you could try defragmenting the disk, and at worst scenario Formating
Good luck
PS. don't run them all at the same time, other wise your computer will run slowly.
