I am looking specifically for a website that has like a forum where queer men who are not into the "mainstream queer culture" talk about issues that are important. What I am NOT after are gay dating sites or hook-up places. I am interested to know, if anyone knows, of a site or sites, that cater's for gay men/boys who perhaps are labelled "alternative"?

Clarification. Which part of my question stated that I wasn't into anal sex? Also, I do agree there is more to being gay than sex, which is why I am asking this question. I AM NOT LOOKING FOR DATING SITES OR FOR NEW **** BUDDIES THANK YOU. Just a conversation with another gay man does not have to involve sex and (omg!) sometimes sex isn't even mentioned!!

You're asking an extremely relevant question.

Kudos to you for even bringing this kind of thing up!

So much of the so-called "gay culture" is focused on sex... That, or some kind of radical rainbow-flag waving in-your-face sort of stuff... none of which I or my partner of 13 years identify with.

I wish I could tell you about web sites that cater to "normal" people who happen to be gay. Some of the other people who answered provided links, and maybe you'll find something that is interesting to you in this regard.

I wonder why there's so much emphasis on sex per se in "gay culture." I'm not saying that sex isn't a big deal in "straight culture..." Look at most advertisments! But there is something more overt with gays in terms of the focus on sexuality as opposed to other things that we typically do in our lives... like being employees or entrepreneurs or musicians or pilots or whatever...

Again, perhaps some of the links that other people suggested might be something you'll find useful... I can't speak for any of them.

But I can relate to your concern, and I share it.

Take it easy, and great question!

I'm not convinced there is a 'mainstream queer culture' the way you express it. Most gay men have a circle of friends who they communicate with - I don' think you'll find the same kind of community online, because there will inevitably be an undercurrent of cruise/dating.

Why not try local gay non-profits or clubs instead? Dance, sport, hobby clubs abound for gay men in most large cities - perhaps there are some within driving distance for you?

I wouldn't waste time on online sites.

I agree! This morning as I was on the pot looking at GENERE I noticed that I am not on the east or west coast. I don't take hiv medications, I am not interested in owning a high end Ford with shorts, I don't want to own land or get a massage on the east and west coast. I don't take drugs and do party circuits, and im not 30 or under any more. WHERE ARE THE REAL WEBSITES AND MAGAZINES!!! I am almost temped to put my money on this. I want to know both sides of politics, Places that aren't destinations where girls can be gone wild. Interview with central america gay culture!!!!! How bout gay people with family relationship type values!

If by alternative you mean not into anal sex or effeminate behavior then I am a g0y and we are as alternative to gay culture as you can get and still love sexual encounters with men.

Yes. My yahoo group.

My site deals with gay media, gay body identity, sub-cultural affiliation, masculine gender roles and sexual racism on the gay scene.
