My opinion is that a homophobe is someone who directs hateful remarks towards people with a different sexual orientation.

Do not say that it's just their opinion, because their is a difference between hate speech and opinion.

E.g. Opinion - I do not agree with your lifestyle.
Hate speech - Should we tag gays to make sure they do not come near children?

How would you classify someone as a homophobe? What characteristics do you look at when you call someone a homophobe?

I would classify a homophobe as anyone with an irrational fear of homosexuals. These are people who look at every action from anyone else as a threat to their heterosexuality. Irrational because no one else can "make" you homosexual, as no one else can "make" you heterosexual. Its a threat because they are insecure in their own sexual identity and sexual preferences. Its easy to blame the ills of the world on someone or something else, humans do this all the time rather than accept personal responsibility for their own actions.

I don't sweat the schoolyard dramatics, words can be ignored. However, homophobia used as an excuse for committing a hate crime should be prosecuted. We do not need these bottom feeders in our world, no matter what the sexuality.

Is anyone aware that two days ago a gay black man who thought he was connecting with another gay man he met in a chat room, was beaten with baseball bats by four men who purposefully lured him to a meeting place. He got an opportunity to run, and ran into the path of a car and while he lay in the street, the four men continued to beat him with the bats. He was alive when the police got there, but died yesterday from his injuries. What excuse exactly could there be for doing this? Because he's gay? He needed to be beaten to death because of his sexuality which has nothing to do with anyone else but him? These four men are not humans, they are not part of the human culture but something evil slinking along the bottom of the sewers.

Literaly, a homophobic is someone who is afraid of homosexuals. It could be a person who would feel threatened by a gay and would get cold sweat...obviously this is not the case...I dont call everyone who is a bit negative a homophobe...if someone says that being gay is perverted it might be because of ignorance, and the fact that he is being bombardised with this bigotry all the time. It doesnt mean they cant change their minds. All they need is a gay person to talk to them and tell them the real facts. What I consider homophobic is when people actually hate you...when they dont just ignore you because you are something they wouldnt like to be, but chase you around giving living hell and spread hatred. So there is a difference between ignorance and homophobia I guess..

Sadly both your examples and the answers above are good classifications although Olga is a prime example that can be used as a template for teaching others. That said, homophobess can be subtle as well, it takes a keen ear and eye to hear the words and more importantly see the actions taken. Consider how many politicians have said one thing in public yet privately.....

We all know too many people who to your face will say "gays are cool" yet the moment your back is turned.

Put it this way, I prefer a homophobe be "in my face" because at least I can see him/her and deal with it. It is much harder to fight the wolf when he is clothed in a sheep.

Homophobia is defined as the fear of, aversion to, or discrimination against homosexuality or homosexuals.[1] It can also mean hatred or disapproval of homosexual people, their lifestyles, sexual behaviors or cultures, and is generally used to assert bigotry.[2]

Critics of the term argue that when the term is applied to social, religious or political disapproval of or opposition to LGBT political goals or specific sexual acts, it is a loaded term. These critics usually argue that their disapproval is based upon religious, moral, or philosophical grounds rather than being driven by fear or prejudice, and that the term presumes irrationality.

technically it's all about unreasonable criticism. they'll assume all gay people are the same. that they are all immoral.

they throw all the facts about themselves onto the homosexuals blaming them all for it.

like they're all pedophiles, or that they are all into orgy, they're all flamyboyant gay men or fat mean lesbians

some also feel the need to hurt them in any means. they also spread unproven lies or untrue myths onto people including children (Fred Phelps for example)

also homophobes are very immature and uneducated. it's the truth. but they can change if they wanted to. otherwise, you can't fix stupid.

anticipate some sarcastic solutions. human beings anticipate gays to shield their place and anticipate that they are going to realize this nicely adequate that others are actually not obligated to. So any professional-gay place is predicted to be from a gay. yet human beings shouldn't anticipate. they're going to of direction and that they have got been assuming issues for the reason that speech become invented, yet I agree that they could desire to not. i'm not professional-gay parenthood myself yet I help the different positions you have listed and am not gay the two. GC. "absolutely everyone who's professional-gay marriage, professional-gay parenthood and professional-homosexuality is anti-God." That fact assumes that every physique faith yet yours is fake. i think of you're able to desire to coach that your faith is the only valid one in the past you're making considered one of those fact. which would be your valid opinion yet its hardly a actuality. even if in case you do teach that each different faith is fake (that's impossible with our cutting-edge information) it would not advise somebody is anti something they only do not carry on with your faith as you sense they could desire to. There are billions of human beings interior the international who do not supply your particular faith a single concept even though it would not cause them to desperate to stand against it.
