maybe because people who are ugly on the outside usually make fun of people who are ugly on the inside, or at least people who are not ugly on the outside. turnabout is fair play, right?

Because they're insecure about themselves. They don't have good feelings toward themselves so they project the ill feelings by insulting and bullying others. They want everyone to be as miserable as they are.
